CONOR RYAN was born and raised in South Boston and is now the Boston Bruins beat writer at lglyey.com.
Education: After graduating for Boston Latin Academy in Roxbury back in 2011, Conor made the arduous three-mile move to Boston University to continue his education. While at BU, Conor served as a beat reporter at The Daily Free Press — BU’s student-run newspaper — for three years. He also held multiple internships at WEEI.com and BostInno during his time in college. During his senior year, Conor managed a staff of 20 writers as sports editor of the “FreeP” while covering the 2014-15 BU men’s hockey team during its run to a national championship game. (Please - no need to mention Providence College).
Career: Right after graduating from college, Conor spent the summer of 2015 interning for the Cape Cod Times, serving as the primary beat reporter for the Cape Cod Baseball League. He then served as a Hockey East reporter for SB Nation and Vox Media before joining MassLive.com in the fall of 2015. Over the next three years, Conor covered Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins for MassLive, while eventually serving as the primary Boston Bruins beat reporter for the past two seasons. Conor also helped lead coverage of the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds, Hartford Yard Goats and the Spalding Hoophall Classic while primarily working out of Springfield.
Personal: Conor resides in Boston and you can usually find him either going for a run down by Castle Island or at your local Dunkin’ Donuts trying to connect to Wi-Fi.
Fondest sports memory growing up: Sitting out in the Fenway bleachers for a Red Sox - Yankees game in the summer of 2003. It was … an experience.
Sports memory you’d like a mulligan on: During suicide drills in high school, I decided to shift into fifth gear and attempted to brace my impact by colliding into the padded gym walls. I did finish first — but the eight fractures in both of my wrists put a bit of a damper on the whole thing.
Favorite Boston sports moment you’ve witnessed: The wall of sound after Torey Krug’s slap shot tied Game 7 against the Maple Leafs almost knocked me out of my chair. TD Garden was going bananas during that third period.
The snapshot moment you love as a reporter: The atmosphere at TD Garden right before puck drop. Once the postseason rolls around, that building is absolutely electric.
On a rare day off, you’ll find him: Either grabbing a bite to eat at Sully’s down on Castle Island or kicking back with his Boston Terrier, Clancy.
He might have been penciled into a fourth-line role in Boston’s lineup as recently as Thursday morning, but there stands a chance that Anders Bjork could find himself in a much more...
