BRIAN ROBB is a lifelong Massachusetts resident. He was born in Jamaica Plain and raised in Newton. After covering the Celtics for the past eight years at various media outlets, he is now the Celtics beat reporter at lglyey.com.
Education: Brian graduated from Newton North High School, where he played soccer and ran track. Brian stayed local and attended Boston College, graduating with a major in Communications and a minor in History. He spent a large chunk of his undergraduate years watching Jared Dudley, Craig Smith and Tyrese Rice in their primes at Conte Forum.
Career: Brian got his start in journalism when he was selected to start a Celtics blog from scratch as part of ESPN’s TrueHoop Network. Brian joined forces with another unknown (at the time) Zach Lowe (who is now a senior NBA writer at ESPN.com) to form CelticsHub.com in 2009 and cover the height of the Big Three era in Boston. CelticsHub was one of the first blogs to be credentialed by the Celtics organization and remains active to this day.
Brian joined 98.5 the Sports Hub a month after its launch in 2009 as a producer, and he has spent the last eight years serving in a variety of roles at the station, including reporter, on-air Celtics analyst, a CBSBostonSports.com writer and a on-site engineer. Sports Hub listeners might know Brian for his Celtics takes from a closet while engineering Felger and Mazz shows at the TD Garden. Brian has also helped produce the Celtics Tonight radio pregame show with Sean Grande and Cedric Maxwell since 2013.
Brian contributed to a number of prominent outlets’ coverage of the Celtics and the NBA in the past seven years. He has written for NBA.com, Bleacher Report, and most recently Boston.com as their primary Celtics reporter/columnist. Brian is a member of the Pro Basketball Writer’s Association and covered the 2010 NBA Finals.
Personal: Brian resides in Watertown with his wife, Kate, and dog, Yogi. He enjoys playing intramural basketball in Cambridge, competing with his wife in Jeopardy and tennis, and hanging out with friends and family.
Getting to know Brian...
Fondest sports memory growing up: Being part of the state championship team in indoor track and field at Newton North.
Sports memory you'd like a mulligan on: Losing a ball in the lights during a Babe Ruth playoff game and taking it off the nose.
Favorite Boston sports moment you've witnessed: Paul Pierce drilling a 3-pointer in his final shot of his career at TD Garden after coming in off the bench cold in the final seconds of the game.
The snapshot moment you love as a reporter: The buzz in the building before any kind of a playoff game at the TD Garden. There are few places in America that can harness that much energy, which makes it a treat to cover games in Boston.
Favorite amateur Boston sports spot: I don’t get down there nearly as much as I would want to now, but I always loved watching Cape Cod League Baseball in my summers growing up.
On a rare off day, you'll find me: Heading to the dog park with Yogi, trying to get a game of spikeball going in the summer months, enjoying some Netflix with my wife, and probably watching old NBA clips on YouTube.
